Introduction to the Design Process
Lea Bartneck and Briman Wallior are mother and daughter. Lea owns Design Concepts, and Briman manages the business. After years of working independently, we decided to go into business together. Our unique personalities and approach to design make us a great team. We each have our own roster of clientele, but occasionally get to enjoy working together on projects. Although we may each have our own distinct design ideas, we do have the same basic design philosophy and values. Each of our projects are custom tailored to meet our clients needs. We take a practical, yet creative approach to each of our projects. The following is a basic explanation of how the design process works, in order for you to better understand how we may help you.
Initial In-Home Consultation
We meet with you in your home to assess your needs and desires. We will see the spaces you would like to work on, and you may share with us any ideas or concerns. You may ask any questions you may have about how we might approach the design of any particular space. We will share with you any initial thoughts, suggestions, or ideas we have.
Letter of Agreement
If you choose to work with us, we draft a Letter of Agreement to spell out what you would like us to work on for you, and at what terms.
Measurements and Photography
We will take measurements from which to work, and take photographs of your rooms and any existing furnishings that will be used in the final design.
Design Development
Development of the design for your home is a continual collaborative process between the homeowner and designer. It includes overall design concept, floor plans, color palette, lighting plans, research, and specifications. We expect for the homeowner to contribute any ideas they may have. We look to the client for verbal descriptions of likes and dislikes, needs and wants, and for visual aids in the form of magazine clippings, sketches, and swatches our clients may have collected.
Presentation
We will repeatedly meet with you to discuss the design plans for your home. We will be presenting various options and estimates to you to based on our discussions and research. We will always offer you several options for any particular item based on your requirements, and our knowledge of the many options available. We will always choose the items that are most appropriate and that most closely meet with your specified criteria.
Implementation
Your design plan is implemented. The elements of the project are ordered and expedited, including furniture, flooring, window treatments, lighting, etc. Any labor required is scheduled as needed.
Closing
We will review the work that has been done on your project. You may identify any further needs, and discuss what you see as the next phase for your home.
